FLO Announces New Monthly Electric Car Charging Service

Electric cars are involved in the business plan of almost every large transportation company from Ford to Uber, but one thing can be a challenge for prospective buyers: finding a charging area close to home.

FLO is fixing that problem by announcing a new turnkey monthly service that promises electric car charging solutions delivered as a monthly package. Property owners or managers enter into a flat-rate agreement with FLO and the Quebec City-based company provides electric car charging services. FLO takes care of the installation costs, service management and costs, maintenance and upgrades.

Normally, if an owner of a condo or a commercial building wanted to install charging stations, it would be an incredibly costly endeavour. FLO is making things easier by turning capital expenditures into a more flexible operating expense.

The owners of the lot where the charging stations are installed will control access to the service and be able to claim a small percentage of the fees. This provides a recurring revenue service as well as peace of mind for those with an electric car.

“Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for building owners and managers to install charging stations for their tenants, customers and employees,” said Louis Tremblay, CEO of FLO. “This initiative is one more way FLO is meeting the rapidly growing needs of Canada’s electrical vehicle drivers—whether at home, at work or on the go—with a solution that reflects building managers’ realities and challenges.”

FLO’s charging stations work well for a number of cases, from parking fleet lots to office buildings with garages, but they synergize especially well for condominiums. Infrastructure exists where residents with electric cars can pay a small subscription fee together and receive a charging station in their own personal parking space, eliminating the cost for those who do not have an electric vehicle.

In total, FLO has more than 4,000 charging stations across the country, operating the largest network of its kind in Canada. The company is hoping this plan removes any kind of impediments towards people buying electric cars, as accessibility to charging is something many customers think about when making a purchase.
