Canada Breaks Record with 13 Companies on 2018 Cleantech 100

The Global Cleantech 100 list has been revealed, and Canadian companies feature prominently on the list.

In total, there are 13 Canadian companies representing five provinces. With 13 on the list, a new record has been hit for Canada, topping their previous record of 11 from last year. The list was announced at the Cleantech Forum in San Francisco and culled from over 12,000 nominations.

The companies included are:

  • Ecobee (Toronto, Ontario)
  • Enbala Power Networks (Vancouver, British Columbia)
  • Farmers Edge (Winnipeg, Manitoba)
  • Semios (Vancouver, British Columbia)
  • Terramera (Vancouver, British Columbia)
  • Awesense Wireless (Vancouver, British Columbia)
  • MineSense Technologies (Vancouver, British Columbia)
  • GaN Systems (Ottawa, Ontario)
  • Opus One Solutions (Toronto, Ontario)
  • Saltworks Technologies (Richmond, British Columbia)
  • Enerkem (Montreal, Quebec)
  • Axine Water Technologies (Vancouver, British Columbia)
  • Carbon Cure Technologies (Halifax, Nova Scotia)

The list is in its ninth year and shows Cleantech Group’s “barometer reading of the global innovation community’s shifting views on which companies, and which types of companies, are most likely to have big commercial impact in a 5-10 year timeframe.”

British Columbia is the most active province on the list, home to seven of Canada’s 13 Global Cleantech 100. This is representative of the province’s push towards renewable and environmentally-minded companies. Ontario is second on the list with three companies in total.

Awesense also took home the GE Innovation Award, which goes to the company that best represented GE’s innovation themes in advancing smart power. MineSense took home the Automation of Everything Award, which went to the company with the most impact on industrial automation and energy efficiency.

There are companies from countries like China, the U.S., the U.K. and more on the list. Big names like Didi Chuxing, Lyft and Proterra are some of the highest net worth companies included.

Ecobee was named as a finalist in the Canadian Innovation Awards‘ Energy & Sustainability category. Vote for them now until February 2.
