WeWork Labs Launches in Toronto

After an official launch just earlier this year, one of the largest co-working companies in the world is bringing their new initiative to Toronto.

WeWork has announced the launch of their Labs program in Toronto, offering early-stage startups the space, resources and community they need to scale and grow into the next phase of their progression. Toronto’s first Labs location will open up in November at 1 University.

This newest location joins 15 other Labs programs spread across 12 cities, including Sao Paulo, New York and Shanghai. WeWork’s program invites in all kinds of companies, pre- or post-accelerator, guiding entrepreneurs through the process of building a business.

“We are so excited to bring WeWork Labs to Toronto, one of today’s fastest-growing tech markets for entrepreneurs and startups,” said Roee Adler, SVP, Global Head of WeWork Labs. “WeWork first entered Toronto a little over a year ago, and has since brought hundreds of companies together. Now with Labs, we have the opportunity to connect early-stage startups with local partners and member companies within our global community. Together, WeWork Labs and Toronto will create a platform for entrepreneurs across all industries to grow and compete on a global scale.”

WeWork will look to work with other incubators and accelerators in Toronto to help provide lasting support to the entrepreneurs they bring in to this local Labs cohort. In total, Labs has over 1,500 members around the world.

To access the program, hopeful participants must apply through a page on WeWork’s site. Labs is a for-pay initiative and will last as long as the enrolee needs it to. WeWork does not take equity, offers program managers, hosts events such as workshops and pitch nights, and more. Alumni from the Labs program include Entrupy, Rukkus, Thunderclap and more.
